chimbo signMOUNTAIN FACT FILE - CHIMBORAZO: 6,310m (20,703´). 150km South of Quito. Grade 3D.

MOUNTAIN PROFILE: This huge mountain is the highest point in Ecuador. It has five summits, the highest being at 6,310 meters. There are many routes up its slopes. The normal route runs up the Southeast flank and is a variation of the original Whymper route. One can also climb from the East side (sun ridge route) which involves mixed rock/ice climbing.

THE ASCENT: Ascents of the normal route start at midnight and involve 8-10 hours ascent from the Refugio Whymper at 5,000m. This is a strenuous but fantastic climb of one of the highest and most beautiful mountains in the Americas. The ascent does include route finding and crevasse crossings and you entail icy slopes of up to 50 degrees.

YOUR OUTLINE ITINERARY

Your itinerary will include a brief description of our trip and an outline of your stays and meals provided. We normally only provide a breakfast at any of our city stop over locations as it gives you the opportunity to vary your cuisine by not being tied to a hotel menu. However where we think your culinary choice is limited we have included additional lunches or evening meals. We can provide full board trips on request i.e. through personal choice or if any person has any special dietary needs.
